Riff Wood is a rock band from Davis County, Utah, composed of teenage best friends Carson Groves, Hyrum Russon, and Asher “Shredder” Winegar. The trio returns with “Beyond A Tree,” the final preview of their sophomore album Butterfly In Black And White, out September 18 via Giant Music. Produced by 3× GRAMMY® winner Rob Cavallo, the track extends the Utah band’s breakout momentum following their biggest North American and UK headline tour. The trio first started playing together at 11 and broke through with their debut Tough Luck, powered by fan favorites “I Won’t” and “Blur,” the latter exploding on TikTok.
Built on the chemistry of best friends Carson Groves, Hyrum Russon and Shredder, Riff Wood have turned viral clips and packed shows into a fast‑growing fanbase. “Beyond A Tree” follows earlier singles like “Run It,” “Shy Guy,” “PUNK” and “Manufactured Tragedy,” continuing the rollout toward the 13‑track album.
“‘Beyond A Tree’ is about finding a glimpse of light in sad moments,” Hyrum says. “Missing my chance when it was right in front of me, and hoping for a second one.” It's a very emotional ballad with a fantastic sound, a calm and acoustic beginning and a stunning second part, where the song grows in intensity. It's a quality song, amazingly performed by the trio and with a fantastic sound as well.
