The band began composing and recording remotely to relieve boredom, during the lockdown, but they rapidly realised the potential of what they were producing. They decided to rent a studio in the middle of nowhere to bring the tunes to life as soon as the lockdown was lifted. The Gold Supply recorded the first compilation of four tracks, drawing inspiration from Massive Attack, Portishead, Bjork, The Verve, and Spiritualized. In September 2021, the demo Underwater Completely EP was released, receiving positive reviews and exposure from BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, AwayDay Radio, Radio-Wigwam, and others.
