Figure Of Speechless are
at it again with the new single Tunnel At The End Of The Light, which
is also the title track of their upcoming album.
The band is the brainchild of guitarist and songwriter
Glen
McMaster, who started the creative process for the songs back
in 2020. In the following year, Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater,
Alice Cooper, Billy Idol) joined McMaster and they started tossing ideas around
and bringing together their thoughts immediately as a duo, sharing the very
same passion for modern prog.
Over four months, other high-profile veterans like Ron
“Bumblefoot” Thal (Guns N’Roses, Sons of Apollo), Ray Alder
(Fates Warning, Redemption), Tony Franklin (The Firm, Blue
Murder) and Brian Tichy (Whitesnake, Billy Idol, Foreigner, Ozzy
Osbourne) came on board.
Originally based on a riff written back in 1994, the
single Tunnel
At The End Of The Light is now finally ready for release. The song
is strong with its heavy guitar riffs and mind blowing vocals all flowing
together in a perfect harmony with the lead melody. It’s got the wake to take
you on a journey through life while attuning you to the search for your own
true self. The problems we face in life cannot be solved by others, there’s
neither salvation from The Lord nor ultimate guidance from science, just
self-reliance and the trust in your own instincts to put all the hints and
pieces together.
Glen McMaster, mastermind behind the songs, shares the story of Tunnel At The End Of The Light: “The title track for the album is a play on words that I am very fond of doing. Quite often I find that looking at stuff backwards or upside-down makes much more sense. The lyrics are about being your own individual, not relying on external influences and ultimately realizing that death is not the end. The odd patterns (9-11-9-11) in the riff give the song an ‘asymmetrical tilting’ feel, especially with Brian’s straight 4 drumming offsetting the whole thing.”
The progressive music coming from Figure Of
Speechless offers a wide range of influences, which is meant to give a sense of
nostalgia going all the way from early Genesis to classicals like Beethoven.
Held firmly together by a modern prog metal framework and the familiarity of
the various metal legends featured, it provides the listeners with an “infusion of
5 decades of progressive music” – as Glen McMaster likes to call

be released on September 2nd, 2022
