The ambitious three-piece DC progressive group A Shrewdness of Apes (ASOA) was influenced by Alice in Chains, Tool, Queens of the Stone Age, and Yes. Their taste spans from complex, odd metre acoustic melodies to riffs heavily laden with effects. Lyrically, protest songs, history, evolution, and societal concerns are all discussed. Since its formation in 2013, ASOA has moved out from Richmond and put out two full-length albums and four EPs. Expect the unexpected in terms of music in A Shrewdness of Apes.
I really like this song, No One Knows What It's Like To Be Sober. It features amazing riffs (what a sound!), a very dynamic and precise rhythm section, and cool vocals as well. Have a listen to the guitar solo (very 70s!) and the completely unexpected tempo change toward the end of the song. A quality and eclectic song.
