DYSBANDED’s The Wilcox Demos brings together Boston hardcore veterans in Hollywood, sparked by Jonathan Anastas (DYS, Slapshot). Joined by Jaime Sciarappa (SSD, Slapshot), Al Pahanish (Powerman 5000, DYS), Johnny “Rock” Heatley (Halfcocked), and Mark “Muddy” Dutton (LA Guns, Dwight Yokum), the band channels Sunset Strip grit into raw rock and roll.
Featuring guest appearances from Adam Porris (DYS, Far From Finished), Kyndal Inskeep (The Voice, Season 17), and Dave Smalley (Dag Nasty, Down By Law), the album is a love letter to pre-Instagram, high-octane nights.
The EP comprises 5 songs, totaling nearly 20 minutes of music. It opens with a very cool riff, pure classic hard rock, in the song "Black Daze." We can immediately spot the sound quality (it was recorded at S.I.R. Studios, mixed by Josh Fields, and mastered by Howie Weinberg) and the experience of the musicians from this very cool opener, with a super catchy chorus and a great rhythm section. Another Broken Night slows down the pace a little, and it features a classy arrangement and the usual very catchy vocals and guitar solo.
A very cool bass line at the beginning of Bitter, where the band shows the rock attitude, the song is not fast, but it's super powerful, and it's probably my favourite, if I have to choose one. Turn It Up is classic Hard Rock, fast and catchy. The last song on the EP is Rebel Son, with very inspired guitars and with a Punk spirit. A very energetic one with a quality rhythm section, with vocal lines that will get stuck in your head.
