Forged in the East Midlands and now rooted in London, Dethonator deliver their most ambitious statement yet with Race Against The Sun: Part Two, releasing November 27th, 2020. A forty-minute conceptual opus inspired by Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the album unfolds in seven seamless movements—melding classic horror with the drama and intensity of true Heavy Metal.
Formed in 2002, the four-piece have refined their signature blend for nearly two decades. If Judas Priest are the blueprint, Dethonator are Damascus Steel—layered, relentless, and steeped in tradition. Following the acclaim of 2019’s Race Against The Sun: Part One, which spawned fan favourites like “Nightmare City,” “Pyroclastic,” and “When Lucifer Fell,” the band now steps boldly into darker waters.
I find "Nightmare City,” extremely interesting, mixing a few genres. I can clearly hear two main influences, the first part of the song is influenced by power metal and the second one is kind of thrashy, very technical, and with a very tight performance by the band. It's a quality song, original, amazingly written, performed, and produced as well. Give it a go by clicking on the Spotify player below and remember to follow Dethonator on social media.
