I love the energy, the pace, the mood, and the performance. The song is catchy and amazingly performed by the band, with heavy guitar, a super solid rhythm section, and very inspired vocal lines. The production is also perfect for the genre (it was recorded at The Magic Garden Studio with producers Gavin Monaghan & Liam Radburn).
Songwriter Jack Flynn says, “Black & Blue is a song about being floored by an emotional hit you didn’t see coming. The feeling of being knocked back and left reeling, when you can’t quite make sense of what’s just happened. The lyrics circle around that frustration, asking why you feel so defeated but not really getting an answer. It’s the sound of grappling with someone else’s impact on you, that sense of being bruised in the aftermath but still running on adrenaline.
