At just 19 years old, Philadelphia-based singer, songwriter, and visual artist Gavyn Bernhardt is carving out a singular niche in modern hard rock. Blending experimental, psychedelic, and folk elements, his music seamlessly shifts between soft, vulnerable introspection and driving, high-energy protest rock. Working alongside his brother—producer and multi-instrumentalist Owen Bernhardt—out of their home-built basement setup, Sightbloom Records, the duo crafts deeply immersive soundscapes.
Taken from his debut concept EP On the Air (a critique of internet oversaturation and corporate decline), the title track “On the Air” explores the heartbreaking experience of watching someone slip away into total digital seclusion. Musically, the song is a masterclass in tension and release. Driven by a captivating atmosphere and a stunning, highly emotional vocal performance, it builds toward an incredible crescendo. With its sticky melodies, inventive arrangement, and flawless production, "On the Air" is a top-tier piece of songwriting from every single angle.
