Canned Pineapple - Done With Everything

Brighton's rising scuzz-pop outfit Canned Pineapple continue their upward trajectory with the release of their infectious new single, "Done With Everything," marking their debut release on U.S. independent label Missing Piece Records. The label, already home to acclaimed acts such as Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs and Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard, has added another exciting name to its growing roster of alternative rock talent.

Formed in 2021, the Brighton five-piece have rapidly established themselves as one of the UK's most exciting underground indie-rock bands. Built around the songwriting partnership of vocalist Seán Drury and guitarist Oakley Gardiner, the band blend fuzzy garage-rock energy with catchy pop sensibilities, creating a sound that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly modern.

"Done With Everything" perfectly captures that balance. The track draws heavily from the spirit of 1990s alternative rock, combining distorted guitars, loose-limbed swagger, and memorable melodies. While comparisons to Weezer and Supergrass feel appropriate, Canned Pineapple inject their own chaotic personality into every corner of the song.

Produced by Tom Rees of Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard, the recording deliberately embraces imperfections. Rather than constructing the track piece by piece, the band recorded much of it live in the studio, capturing the raw chemistry that has become central to their reputation on stage. Bass, drums, and rhythm guitar were tracked together, while vocals were recorded collectively in the same room, preserving a sense of spontaneity and urgency throughout.

What makes "Done With Everything" particularly engaging is its unpredictability. The song constantly shifts mood and energy, moving through melodic passages before exploding into a punchy, punk-fuelled chorus. Those dynamic changes keep the listener engaged from start to finish, while the chorus itself delivers the kind of hook that lingers long after the song ends.

The band's sense of humour is equally evident in the story behind the track. In a typically self-deprecating admission, the group have revealed that they almost didn't record the song at all, only changing their minds after former bassist Sam Cullen insisted it was one of their strongest compositions. Thankfully, they listened.

Beyond its infectious songwriting, "Done With Everything" showcases a band that understands exactly where their strengths lie. The production never feels overworked or overly polished. Instead, it enhances the song's rough-edged charm, allowing the guitars to bite and the melodies to shine without sacrificing the band's DIY spirit.

Ultimately, "Done With Everything" serves as an ideal introduction to Canned Pineapple's world. It is eclectic, energetic, and unapologetically scrappy, combining garage-rock grit with sharp pop instincts. The song's changing moods, explosive punk chorus, and authentic production make it an exciting statement from a band clearly gaining momentum. If this release is any indication of what's to come, Canned Pineapple are a name indie-rock fans should keep firmly on their radar.
