What do Grave Digger and Iron Maiden have in common?

By Enrico Spinelli

What do Grave Digger and Iron Maiden have in common? They don't make the same musical genre (aside from playing heavy metal), they are not under the same label, in short, they have nothing in common... nothing but a curious conceptual coincidence:

in April 1995 the German Grave digger released one of their most famous albums, "Heart of Darkness", with a famous long title track and inspired by Francis Ford Coppola's film "Apocalypse Now" (inspired by "Heart of Darkness "by Conrad); in October of the same year, Iron Maiden presented the discographic debut of the new line-up with Blaze on vocals, the album is "The X Factor" and among the tracks present we find "The Edge of Darkness", also inspired by the same movie.

But the similarities don't end here!

In 1996 Grave Digger will release their next album and first concept album, "Tunes of War", based on the life and exploits of Wiĺliam Wallace; in 1998 Maiden will release their new album, "Virtual XI", and among its tracks, we will find "The Clansman", inspired precisely... by William Wallace!

Of course, it's just to chat, considering that beyond the subject matter the songs presented have nothing in common, however, a curious and nice coincidence...
