Interview: Barbara Black

Nitro (drummer), Javi (guitar) and I started this project together in 2015, we had musical interests in common, and we enjoyed so much playing together. After the first album “Ad Libitum” we went touring to UK and Spain. Later on our single Shiva was chosen for the Eurovision AEV contest in 2017. After this Niño Buffalo Márquez (bass) and Cone (guitar) joined us and recorded together our album “Love, Death & Flies”. We are very comfortable working all together.

We sound like
Our sound is born from the roots of rock with the power of today's metal. The new album Love, Death & Flies is our hardest sound. You will find in the lyrics Victorian streets, dark passages and a decadent romanticism and it will drive you to reach the zenith in “Damnified”, a reflection of the approach to wilder southern sounds. I am a passionate singer so there are powerful voices that fly through melodies, screaming and opera. And what I really like the most is the sharp guitars and devastating drums.

Discography
2015 “Spiritual Rock”
2017 “Ad Libitum”
2020 “Love, Death & Flies”

Influences
Black Stone Cherry, Alter Bridge, Halestorm, In This Moment, Sixx A.M., Shinedown and many more!

What do you write about?
I usually write about social messages such as the rejection of gender violence, the defense of animal rights or my own feelings in some situations, all through beautiful images and metaphors. Passion is always present.

Your favorite live performance so far
The day I sang in La Riviera venue in Madrid with an amazing sold-out in a tribute to Freddie Mercury was really breathtaking.

Tell us a funny story that happened in studio or on stage
Last year during the last show before the pandemic, I was playing live with the covers band we have. Sometimes I have the lyrics in a notebook cause there are so many songs in the setlist hahaha. So there was a moment when I was doing gestures to my mother who was in the audience, just to get closer the lyrics. I turned to drink water and suddenly there was a man on the stage. I thought it was a technician, but nooo! It was a fan who thought I was doing him gestures and he got on stage. I didn’t know what to do hahahahah.

Your favorite records
Mr. Big - Lean into it
Warlock - Triumph and Agony
Nightwish - Once
Michael Jackson - Dangerous

A musician you would like to meet for a beer
Doro, Eric Martin, Myles Kennedy, Janet Gardner, Lzzy Hale…

What will you ask backstage if you were the most important band on earth
I would not ask for anything very special or extravagant, I think that whether you are a well-known person or not, you always have to be humble and down to earth. The normal things: water, something to eat with power, towels and a room to change. And obviously a Jack Daniel's pool ... hahahaha
