“The Lost Art of Losing Battles” is the first single from Gentleman Speaker's forthcoming album The Well Between Continents, out October 8. The single recalls a brief but very passionate romance between lead vocalist Tim Brecht and a traveler he met during a trip to Switzerland.
The dynamic track moves from powerful alt-emo to more subdued folk-rock; think Built To Spill meets The Avett Brothers. “Why did you come so far to see a falling star burn up and fall apart” references Brecht’s struggles with vulnerability and how the end of that romance affected him, while also being a literal reference to a meteor shower Brecht saw with his partner.
