Hi Gio, thank you for having us here to talk about our latest single, ‘Non Applicable (Na Na)’ which is an explosive, rebellious rock song. The lyrics deliver a powerful message to people living in a ‘failing system’, refusing to step in line and making a mockery of instructed orders as if they are gibberish. People are unaware of the signs, sirens and state of emergency that surrounds them and the time has come for it to end. ‘Non Applicable (Na Na)’ is not just a song, it’s a wake-up call.
This song is important to us (SFT) for many reasons. Lyrically we are screaming out to people about serious topics and are out to shake foundations. It can be interpreted down to a personal level to spit back at those who have gotten you down/control you or looked at as vocal ammunition against a ‘failing system’, a message to unite and ‘re-ignite what’s human, enough is enough!’ We wanted to make a song that was bigger and better than anything we had previously created and strived to make a huge sounding track. We feel like we have really stepped things up from this point forth. Non Applicable (Na Na) is just the beginning of Stay For Tomorrow 2.0
- How would you describe your sound?
We would describe it as alternative with a plethora of influences from sub-genres. We actively try to make all of our songs sound different to each other whilst striving to create our own signature that binds together our collective love of rock, pop-punk, metal and indie.
- What do you write about?
We write about relationships, thoughts, feelings, personal experiences and stories that are relatable to many.
- What do you listen to when you are home?
We all listen to lots of different stuff. Currently Ollie is listening to Paramore, Bullet For My Valentine, Royal Blood and You Me At Six. Sean has been listening to the new releases from Tremonti and Starset, Eskimo Call Boy and Biffy Clyro.
For Joe it’s been Yungblud, Pierce The Veil, Marianas Trench and Bring Me The Horizon and Nic has been listening to Rush, Meatloaf, The Darkness and CHIC.
- Your favourite live performance so far?
Our favourite gig so far we think has to be our last hometown show at Monty’s in Dunfermline in February 2020 before the pandemic put a pause to live music. This was a headline show to promote our latest single at the time ‘Criminal’, supported by Trading Glances and Ninth Degree. It was a great turn out for us and there were loads of people singing along which was great to hear.
- Tell us a funny story that happened in studio or on stage
So we had done a few gigs and there was something going on sound wise that we just couldn’t put our finger on, something sounded off. We were in our studio rehearsing one night and that slightly “off” sound was present. After spending some time adjusting EQ, volume and making sure we were all in tune, which we were…just not with each other, we discovered the problem.
Ollie’s tuner for his bass was set at the standard 440hz however Joe’s tuner for his guitars was set to 442hz and Nic’s was set to 438hz. We had been rehearsing for weeks with it like this, played a few gigs and embarrassingly never realised this was what had been causing all of our problems.
Now we make a point of double checking each other’s’ tuners on a regular basis.
- Your favourite albums?
This is such a hard question because there are so many incredible ones, luckily you can head over to our YouTube channel to check out Joe and Nic’s in depth look at their favourite albums.
