Interview - Mulholland Jive

Mulholland Jive is Piano-heavy funk-rock bops from an Irish pianist. Let's have a chat about music.

- Hi and welcome to this interview. Tell us about your latest release Bad moon rising.
It's an absolute banger, even if I do say so myself! It's a lively mix of catchy riffs, infectious rhythms and blistering solos all rolled into a genre I've been referring to it as 'thrash funk'.

- How would you describe your sound?
Energetic, instrumental, piano-heavy funk-rock

- What do you write about?
Previous song titles include Hyperspace and Kryptonite plus my debut EP was called Intergalactic. I think it's fair to say there's a definite sci-fi theme running through my songwriting.

- What do you listen to when you are home?
So much stuff - Bob Dylan, Snarky Puppy, Vulfpeck, Muse, The White Stripes, Bon Iver, Chopin, Neil Cowley Trio, Rachmaninov, Bruce Springsteen, Royal Blood, Arcade Fire, Laura Marling, The Strokes, Jacob Collier...to name a few!

- Your favourite live performance so far?
I haven't done one...yet!

- Tell us a funny story that happened in studio or on stage
The studio I was at had a compost toilet. I didn't understand how it worked. Much hilarity ensued.

- Your favourite albums?
Too hard to choose...probably one of Bob Dylan's early albums

- A musician you would like to meet for a beer?
If Bob Dylan wasn't available then I bet Jools Holland would have some great stories to tell.

- What would you ask backstage if you were the most important band on earth?
I'd ask, "how did I become the most important band on earth?"

- What are your plans for the next future?
Aside from world domination, hopefully some live performances in the not-too-distant future
