Interview - In June

Italian band

In June is an Italian Alternative Rock band. Let's have a chat with them about their music.

- Hi guys and welcome to this interview. Tell us about your latest release Black hole.
Black hole is an indie rock jam that explores the darkest thoughts we sometimes have. It’s a realization that at times it is necessary to take the blame off your shoulders and keep away the things that have been intoxicating you.

- How would you describe your sound?
Our sound is romantically angry, full of dynamic rhythms, saturated bass, guitar and ethereal voices, accompanied by very evocative lyrics.

- What do you write about?
Our Ep “Common Grounds” is focused on what happens inside the mind: doubts, trauma, self awareness, strong feelings and hope. We usually see music as an outlet for our discomfort so we talk about mental health very often.

- What do you listen to when you are home?
Pier, the bass player, listens to Tool. The drum player, Mara, relay loves to listen to Paramore when she is home. Dan is really into Wolf Alice lately and rocks to their song while she is staying in.

- Your favourite live performance so far?
We played live in front of Lake Trevigiano here in Italy and also on the Gianicolo’s balcony with the city view behind us: two great settings.

- Tell us a funny story that happened in studio or on stage.
One time before playing we had an aperitif and Pierpaolo was a little tipsy on stage for having too much to drink! It’s been pretty fun. But we learned a lesson!

- Your favourite albums?
We have three very different favorite albums: Pier’s bible is Ten Thousand Days by Tool. For Mara the best album ever is Disintegration by The Cure and finally for Dan Brand New Eyes by Paramore wins it all.

- A musician you would like to meet for a beer?
Dan would love to hang out with Patti Smith and talk about the ‘70s and some poetry. Pier would like to have a beer with Tom Morello, while Mara would happily chat with Copeland.

- What would you ask for backstage, if you were the most important band on earth?
We would be pretty humble anyway: Pier would ask for a basket to play before the show; Mara would love to relax on a massage chair and Dan would demand at least one puppy to cuddle backstage.

- What are your plans for the near future?
Our plan is to bring our music on as many stages as we can and hopefully release more music next year! We are already working on it!
