Interview - The Kindly Ravens

Today let's have a chat with Steve from The Kindly Ravens, a duo who plays an eclectic mix of acoustic-driven Americana, alt. Country, Blues and Folk. The style is reminiscent of bands like The Civil Wars and Gillian Welch and David Rawlings.

Hi guys and welcome to this interview. Tell us about your latest release Bittersweet lies.
Bittersweet Lie is a song about how we tell ourselves little lies at times when we don’t want to confront a relationship that may be ending.

- How would you describe your sound?
Our sound is acoustic driven guitars backed with whatever we think enhances the song, whether it’s Piano , Fiddle , Mandolin. We even have a broom on one track.

- What do you write about?
Relationships and the good and the bad aspects of them, unrequited love. We both love Edgar Allen Poe so we like the darker side of things and we have a song about called Nevermore which is an ode to his poem the Raven.

- What do you listen to when you are home?
Ryan Adams, The Beatles, Drive By Truckers, Blackberry Smoke, Band of Horses.

- Tell us a funny story that happened in studio or on stage.
We just finished filming the video for Bittersweet Lie with Sock Puppets and I don’t want yo give too much away but that was a very funny experience.

- Your favourite albums?
The Beatles catalogue, Ryan Adam Gold, Band of Horses Infinite Dreams, Tom Petty Damn the Torpedoes.

- A musician you would like to meet for a beer?
Ryan Adams and I’d like to play pinball with him and write some songs.

- What would you ask for backstage, if you were the most important band on earth?
An Iron Maiden Pinball Machine.

- What are your plans for the near future?
Finish recording the rest of the tracks for the album and start playing them all to people live.
