Interview - Thunderor

1) Bio
THUNDEROR is an 80’s-infused heavy metal/hard rock band formed in 2020 by Skull Fist band members JJ Tartaglia and Jonny Nesta. The Canadian power trio deliver hook-driven stadium caliber songs with an untamed spirit.

2) Line up

JJ Tartaglia - Vocals, Drums, Keys
Jonny Nesta - Guitars
Oscar Rangel - Bass

3) What do you sound like?
We have a classic heavy metal sound, but with some hard rock and AOR in there too. I guess metal fans will consider us part of the NWOTHM as well, except with 80s synth and piano.

4) List your discography
Our debut album Fire It Up will be out Feb 25th. Our 1st single How We Roll is out already.

5) Who are your influences?
We love 80s rock and metal. Judas Priest, Manowar, Saxon, Journey, Toto, Meat Loaf. Also ELP. And Bruce Springsteen lyrically.

6) What do you write your songs about?
Most of the songs are about longing for escape, for adventure. Motorcycles, romance, danger, not giving up. Following your dreams. Motorcycles are definitely a theme throughout the album, not only because I love to ride but also because of what they mean metaphorically to me.

7) What is your favourite live performance so far?
We did our first live show a few months ago at the Bovine Sex Club here in Toronto. That was a pretty good time. There were still restrictions in place so people were supposed to be seated but they were standing the whole time which was awesome. I remember the bouncer came in yelling at people to sit down but people weren't having it. I just counted off the next song and we kept rocking haha. Also got a lot of ideas on how we can improve the show.

8) Tell us a funny story that happened in studio or on stage.

Played the Full Metal Cruise a couple years ago, we were playing kind of deep in the belly of the ship, huge boat. I've never been sea sick before, I guess I'm not on ships often. But I was definitely nauseous while we played haha. And I could feel myself swaying back and forth on my drum throne with the waves. I just remember telling myself "don't fall off" and "don't puke!" haha. Turned out fine but it was a memorable gig for sure.

9) What are some of your favourite records?

Razor's Edge - AC/DC, Out Come The Wolves - Rancid, Thick As A Brick - Jethro Tull, Born In The USA - Bruce Springsteen, The Real Thing - Faith No More, Battle Metal - Turisas, Innocence Is No Excuse - Saxon.

10) Who is a musician you would like to meet for a beer?
Udo Dirkschneider.

11) What will you ask backstage if you were the most important band on earth?

Clean towel, cold beers!
Giovanni Gagliano

Passionate about music I wrote my first article for "Given To Rock" in 2012, reaching now 30K global followers. I am also a musician, gigging around London.
