Interview - The Prickly Pair

The Prickly Pair is an angsty Americana duo composed of singer-songwriters Mason Summit and Irene Greene. Let's have a chat with them about their music.

- Welcome to this interview. Tell us about your latest release Rosemary.
Rosemary is our first release, and will be part of an eventual EP. It’s loosely inspired by the tragic life of Rosemary Kennedy.

- How would you describe your sound?
Angsty Americana

- What do you write about?
Mostly we write about our own experiences, plus a couple historical figures

- What do you listen to when you are home?
Fresh by Sly & the Family Stone, and Mason’s Motown playlist while he sings full volume “BERNADETTE”

- Your favourite live performance so far?
Our live debut at hotel cafe July 29th 2021.

- Tell us a funny story that happened in studio or on stage.
We drove down to Encinitas to play at a restaurant with no backline, bringing along a portable PA. Battling traffic, we arrived just minutes before our set, only to discover we’d forgotten the necessary cable to plug in our PA. Mason called A-Plus Electronics, a store only two blocks away whose employees mercifully stayed open an extra few minutes to sell him the replacement cable in time for our set.

- Your favourite albums?
Blood on the Tracks by Bob Dylan, Bachelor no. 2 by Aimee Mann, Elliott Smith self-titled

- A musician you would like to meet for a beer?
Jim Sullivan

- What would you ask for backstage, if you were the most important band on earth?
De La Calle Tepache, cheese plate, a bottle of champagne and two capybaras,

- What are your plans for the near future?
Road tripping to Nashville and releasing more music!
