Interview - Koizumi

This would be the song Juliet would write about Romeo if she ever composed one. In Love With The Enemy, the new song by American band Koizumi is about the dichotomy of knowing that only you believe in the love you have. The band wanted to go much bigger with this song, which was the second off of Koizumi's debut EP. Lead singer Josie Koizumi's booming vocals are in your face, and guitarist Cody O's guitar solo is incredible. This band is tearing up the local Chicago scene, and their music videos demonstrate that they have the vision and tenacity to break out of their comfort zone.

- Welcome to this interview. Tell us about your latest release In Love With The Enemy.
Thank you so much for having us! This is the 2nd single off of our EP that we are releasing over this summer and out of all of them, this song represents our style the most. We also released a music video for it on our YouTube.

- How would you describe your sound?
We get our inspiration from early 2000s Pop Rock and modern J-Rock like anime openings but we also don't want to stick ourselves into a single genre. We write music we want to make.

- What do you write about?
I like to tell a story of my past and different experiences that I've had. Of course, I'm a huge fan of themes and like to reference them woven into my lyrics that I lived through.

- What do you listen to when you are home?
Honestly everything! haha. Besides Country. To each their own but it's just not my thing. Other than that, pretty much everything.

- Your favourite live performance so far?
Oh! We played Brauer House in Lombard, IL and we had a huge turnout! We also premiered our first J-Rock cover there and the crowd loved it! Amazing time!

- Tell us a funny story that happened in studio or on stage.
There was one show that we played that we were told to "turn down. You're too loud!" How does one turn down a live band??

- Your favourite albums?
Oh wow...there's so many! Catalyst by NFG, folie a deux by FoB, Self Titled by A7X, and Purple Rain by Prince RIP... is what I can say off the top of my head.

A musician you would like to meet for a beer?
Matt Shadows from A7X would be awesome to share a drink with. That man's voice is incredible!

What would you ask for backstage, if you were the most important band on earth?
M&Ms but only the green ones! haha j/k! The band always makes that joke but the real answer is Coke Zero. If Coke wants a sponsor, hit me up!

- What are your plans for the near future?
We have our next 2 singles coming out to finish out this EP both with a music video release and then we hit the studio again for the full length album. Maybe a few shows in the works as well... gotta follow us to find out those dates. Thank you again for the chat, it was a pleasure!
