Interview - Bad Mary

This New York based band is not your typical line-up, Bad Mary features powerhouse lead vocalist Amanda Mac, with her husband Mike Staub on bass, her dad Bill Mac on drums, and her professor David Henderson on guitar.

How do you sound like?
- classic punk with a modern twist. A little bit of Blondie, a little bit of Ramones, with pinches of 90s punk thrown in there for good measure.

Your discography?
- We have 7 releases! Two Albums: Better Days (2013) The Return of Space Girl (2019), and 5 EPs!: Killing Dinosaurs (2015), We Could Have Saved the World (2016), Glitter Bomb (2017), Rock and Roll Classics Vol. 6: (2022), Rock and Roll Classics Vol. 7 (2022)

What are your influences?
- Blondie, Ramones, Green Day, Queen, AC/DC, The Dollyrots, CBGB Punk.

What do you write about?
- Whatever we want, really. We wrote a 30 Min space opera in 2019. We have a song called "The Floor Is Lava" which is just about the game. But we've also written songs that are a bit more grounded too.

What's your favourite live performance so far?
- It's so hard to pick!!! Here are some of our faves: Vans Warped Tour 2015, Our tour of Japan in 2019, and Our most recent show at Bowery Electric in NYC with: The Dollyrots, Don't Panic, and Palmyra Delran. We've also had dozens of amazing shows at our favorite local spot, Mr. Beery's.

Tell us a funny story that happened in the studio or on stage.
- This really isn't a one-time thing. But our newest single "The Floor Is Lava" has inspired our audiences to engage in the game while we play the song. They've been getting more and more creative the more we play this song live. Last time we played the song, there was a barstool loaded up with people to avoid the FLOOR! One of our friends used a stepstool to hop around the floor to avoid it. One bartender propped himself up in the corner of the bar. It's been a wild time.

Your favourite records?
- Ah! too many! Can't beat Parallel Lines, Ramones, ...and out come the wolves, A night at the Opera, Ziggy Stardust, Dookie, Hedwig and the Angry Inch. How long do you have? we can be here for a while.

A musician you would like to meet for a beer?
- We've been fortunate enough to meet some of our absolute favorite folks and chill with them a bit! We'd love to meet Debbie Harry or Angus Young or Lady GaGa. Oh! Dave Grohl... yes definitely Dave Grohl. And Maybe Jack Black will be hanging out too.

What will you ask for backstage if you were the most important band on earth?
- We're a simple band, I don't know how we would adapt to being "the most important band on earth"... lol... so we require very little. Definitely snacks, we're one of the snackiest bands around. We survived our tour of Japan by eating most of our meals from 7-11 in Japan (which is amazing... btw). So cookies, chips, and candy are a must. But definitely some energy drinks, water, and maybe a Street Fighter II arcade cabinet for Mike to keep him busy while the rest of us try to get ready.
