Interview - PIRANHA

1) Bio
We are Piranha from Greece and we were formed in 1987. We are one of the oldest metal bands in Greece and we have played death/thrash until 2001(dissolution). The band during its 14-year participation in the Greek metal scene received great reviews from the music press around the world - but also managed to play together with many Greek bands such as SEPTIC FLESH, ACID DEATH, NIGHTFALL, FLAMES, DEATH COURIER and also with major international names such as DESTRUCTION and MALEVOLENT CREATION. At the end of 2017, we are back after 16 years of silence with a multi-year record deal with 7hard. Our new album “Arise from the Shadows” released worldwide on August 14 (2020) and it is our most aggressive release ever

5) What are your influences?
Some of your musical influences are Death, Sepultura, Kreator and Children of Bodom.

6) What do you write about?
We don't have a specific style, we just write what interests us, e.g., Nuclear Disease refers to a nuclear war that decimates humanity, Eternal Night is a horror story, Rotten Mind is a journey into the mind of a serial killer, Dead Boat is an epic piece describing a warrior's journey of no return, Haze is a typically Faustian one-man story.

7) Your favourite live performance so far?
We believe that one of the highlights of our career was when we played together with our idols the mighty Destruction and the masters of death metal Malevolent Creation.

8) Tell us a funny story that happened in studio or on stage?
Αt one of our concerts the stage was very low and close to the crowd and one of our fans who were in the front row hit our singer's microphone and it hit our singer in the mouth and as a result broke one of his front teeth.

9) Your favorite records?
Slayer - Show No Mercy
Possessed - Seven Churches
Exodus - Bonded by Blood
Amon Amarth - Twilight of the Thunder God
Behemoth - Opvs Contra Natvram

10) A musician you would like to meet for a beer?
I think it would be Gary Holt from Exodus/Slayer

11) What will you ask backstage if you were the most important band on earth?
A fully equipped mobile studio for rehearsals before the shows.
