Craig Douglas Miller, a guitarist and vocalist who is releasing his debut album at the age of 50 and reviving a musical career he had previously written off, is the creator of the unlikely "new" band Blueburst.
Miller went into a 20-year musical hibernation after major label interest in his alt-rock band in the 1990s never quite materialised. But after getting in touch with guitarist Marty Willson-Piper (The Church, Noctorum), Miller discovered exactly what he had been looking for: a reliable guide and partner. Willson-Piper, drummer Michael Jerome (Better than Ezra, John Cale), and bassist Ryan Kelly all contributed to Miller's album of original songs (Dayroom).
The outcome is guitar-based, post-punk alt-rock and this is their first single "Vanish," which will be part of a forthcoming album. I really like the vibes of the song, reminding me of R.E.M in the 80s (check out the chorus!). The vocals are inspired and the song is absolutely catchy, thanks to a great performance and arrangement, and the guitars are absolutely spot on, with tasty arpeggios and solos. Give it a go by clicking on the Spotify player below and don't forget to follow Blueburst on social media as well.
