Song of the day: Red Kate - Shut It Down

Red Kate is a no-nonsense, class-conscious punk rock and roll band from Kansas City, Missouri. For more than a decade, the band has exhibited its DIY attitude through many LP and 7" releases as well as touring across the Midwest, even going so far as to form Black Site, a non-profit record label cooperative, to assist other artists in producing vinyl records.

This is their new song, called “Shut It Down”, the first single off the band’s upcoming third album, Exit Strategy, is a blistering, no-holds-barred call to action for the oppressed, marginalized and working class. "Written by the band’s former guitar player, Desmond Poirier, “Shut It Down” reminds us that when push comes to shove, the one power the powerless still have is to SHUT! IT! DOWN!"

I love the highly contagious guitar riff and the no-frills mood of the song, amazingly performed by the band and musically in between Punk and Hard rock, with a super catchy chorus and a lot of attitude (check out the guitar solo too!).  Give it a go by clicking on the Spotify player below and don't forget to follow Red Kate on social media as well.
