Interview - Weekend Cigarettes

How would you describe your sound?
Our sound comes from different influences, between 90s California melodic hardcore and alternative rock. We tried to create dark and heavy atmospheres in general, but often broken up by pop and catchy choruses with mature and deep songwriting.

What do you write about?
These last few years of wars, pandemics, and economic and political instability have greatly influenced the themes of our songs. The message is: come on! Don't waste any more time, make a clear decision and move forward.

What do you listen to when you are home?
Ale, the drummer, prefers to listen to 90s American punk rock bands like Nofx, bad religion, etc. I, Daniele, lead guitarist, personally still listen to old school hardcore bands like Dead Kennedys and I really like all the positive American HC wave of the 80s. Frankie, singer and bassist, listens more to alternative rock and modern punk rock bands that stand up against the unwritten law. Finger, lead guitarist, is younger than us and prefers to listen to new school metalcore.

Your favourite live performance so far?
I personally remember an incredible performance in a small club in Milan, where people came on stage to sing a cover of Rancid's "Ruby Soho" with me.

Your favourite albums?
"Pump up the valuum" by NOFX because it was the first punk album I listened to. A musician you would like to meet for a beer? Greg Graffin from Bad Religion

What would you ask for backstage, if you were the most important band on earth?
A Psychotherapy Specialist to do a session before playing.

What are your plans for the near future?
We are about to make the third video clip of "Over the Lies" and are working on new songs to make a new release in 2024
