After an EP released in 2020, the first full-length release by Future Forest is a concept album about Henry, a divorced man who leaves the city to establish a new life in the Australian remote hamlet of Shadow Creek. Things take a turn for the worse, however, when Henry discovers the town's dark secrets. The album was released on August 18, 2023.
The album is comprised of 7 songs for almost 30 minutes of music (very old style format, I love it!). "
A Thousand Miles Behind" is very atmospheric, entirely instrumental, and it's a great introduction to the album. A sinister riff and atmosphere for "
No Accident", something in between Queensryche and Dream Theater, to my ears. More dynamic and upbeat are "
A New Life for Me" and "
Nicole" (released also as a single): I love the guitars, very inspired, and the vocals, very catchy and energetic. Quality rhythm section on "
What Wakes Me Here" with some Pink Floyd atmosphere, great solos and harmonies in the second part of the song, probably my favourite moment of the album. "
My name is Blackening" closes the album and the story. The track features catchy vocals (chorus!) and the usual magistral performance by the band during the instrumental parts.
Definitely a quality concept album, very well performed by the band, very inspired and with the right sound as well. Give it a go by clicking on the Spotify player below and remember to follow
