Interview - Maybe later

Maybe Later is a Progressive Alternative Rock trio from Rome born in 2018, the lineup consists of Federico Raponi (guitar and vocals), Davide Betterini (bass and backing vocals) and Gilberto Goracci (drums). The sounds of the group are inspired by influential artists of the modern rock scene such as Foo Fighters and Alter Bridge, with several contaminations from progressive rock (Rush, Dream Theater, Tool). After a self-produced demo in 2019 in collaboration with Rome music school Viva Musica and maestro Fabio Tullio, the band is back in the studio recording its first album, due out in fall 2023.

Hi and welcome to this interview. Tell us about your latest release.
“After all these years” is our first album. It describes all the emotions and all the hard work that we've put in these 5 years of playing together as a Band. Check it out, it’s a great trip into our world.

How would you describe your sound?
It's a modern way to rock and roll. We have a lot of influences: Federico (guitar player) is still a Metal guy, Davide (bass guitar player) is more of a Pop/Rock guy and Gilberto (drummer) has a lot of influences from Pop-punk to Prog Rock. This mix creates our sound, which is like hearing Tool playing Tom Sawyer by Rush.

What do you write about?
We consider ourselves "modern day warriors”, to say it in Rush-fashioned terms. We write about life related personal/interpersonal topics such as fragile relationships, uncertainty and insecurity towards the future, the difficulty of the passage from post-teenage to proper adult life and so on.

What do you listen to when you are home?
We listen to a lot of various different genres, Gilberto recently discovered Theocracy, Federico fell in love with I Prevail and Davide is deep diving in Subsonica’s discography.

Your favourite live performance so far?
If you want a straightforward answer that's definitely our Release Party in Rome last month, but We’re looking forward to our european tour. - Tell us a funny story that happened in studio or on stage While we were playing our first show as a Trio, one of Federico’s strings snapped and we had no replacement so we had to stop the concert. We sent a friend from the audience while we improvised for the crowd with the 5 remaining strings.

Your favourite albums?
One each: Master of Puppets by Metallica, Federico was musically shaped by their sound; Hold your fire by Rush was one of the first records Gilberto fell in love with as a kid; The colour and the shape by Foo Fighters, was one of the first records Davide discovered in his own when he started exploring different kinds of music

A musician you would like to meet for a beer?
A beer with Rush would be inspiring, we would also have a great time with MÃ¥neskin at least we could speak Italian.

What would you ask for backstage, if you were the most important band on earth?
Probably Unlimited drinks and food, at least one Boulevardier!

What are your plans for the near future?
We are about to start a tour in Eastern Europe, we'll open the stage for Vinnie Moore and his band later this September and then we'll focus on playing live and releasing new AATY content for our fans
