On October 27th, "Grandma Ate the Wolf" released their debut EP, called "Twisted Message". The EP has five songs on loneliness, confusion, melancholy, hope, and love. The musical theme that connects these tunes is introspection. The songs were written over a number of years.
Very good start with "Hurricanes" and its super catchy riffs and energetic mood. I really like the solo section, very original and with a great arrangement. "Empty Spaces" slows down a bit with some pop atmosphere and catchy melodies. Very peculiar and original (I love the grungy guitars) is the following "Shallow Lights" with some percussions only entering in the second part of the song. Hypnotic bass lines and lots of vibrations for "Do it all Again", with a strong chorus, very well sung. If I had to choose one song, this would be my favourite. Some funky atmosphere and great drumming for the last track "The Walk", which surprises with the number of solutions (the riffs at 1.45 are almost NWOBHM!)..
"Twisted Message" is a very personal, interesting and original work, with lots of contaminations and very well written and performed by the band. Give it a go by clicking on the Spotify player below and remember to follow Grandma Ate the Wolf on social media.
