The term "wildcatting" refers to oil drillers in Texas. When a drilling firm places a new well on untested ground, they would drill a "wildcat" oil well. Zane Ruttenberg opted to lean into his origins for their new album, drawing from Texas' dark and muddy history to construct the themes woven into the songs of "Wildcatting".
