D.A.P. (Dark Aries Project) is an experimental solo metal project enriched with horror elements, emerged in 2017 but gained visibility mainly from 2020 onwards. Created by the former guitarist of Nænia, Varganath, and session musician for Walls Of Ashes, the project has completed several EPs and albums, with only two achieving modest success so far.
My latest track is called We Came As Gods. It is an instrumental piece related to the entity Ilinx (a key character in my latest album) and the Artificial Intelligence named Mena, both praised by humanity, one for being the worst human impulse, and the other for its ability to solve problems impossible for humans to solve.
How would you describe your sound?
Answer; I always choose sounds that can transition from being dark, sad, or macabre to violent and aggressive, mixed with moments of relaxation and inner peace, anxiety, and terror! This is exactly the confusion I am personally experiencing during this period. I relied heavily on my anxieties and fears to write this album.
What do you write about?
It is instrumental music, post-metal mixed with horror. The latest album is set in an era where an artificial intelligence named Mena has taken control of humanity, while Ilinx (the worst human impulse personified) decides to confront this change in its own way.
What do you listen to when you are home?
I have loved listening to metal music since I was a child. But I also love to experiment; I often listen to new bands that try out new and improbable things.
Your favourite live performance so far?
Answer; Starset for sure! They are really incredible when they play live.
Tell us a funny story that happened in studio or on stage.
Hard to say. One crazy live moment was when I spat my gum into the air towards the audience without realizing I was being shown on the big screens on stage... there was shock among the people. In the studio, it was almost always fun because we always ended up doing something silly.
Your favourite albums?
Nice one Antares and God is an Automaton by Sybreed, The Contortionist by Malanie Martinez, and a lot of ep and singles by Hellena Pandora. I Disagree by Poppy is a cool album, In Sorte Diaboli by Dimmu Borgir, Cannibal by Static X.
A musician you would like to meet for a beer?
Hellan Pandora for sure, Tim Henson, Thomas Betrisey.
What would you ask for backstage, if you were the most important band on earth?
I would prefer to stay alone backstage so I can focus on myself and then deliver my best performance live.
What are your plans for the near future?
In addition to various playthroughs of the tracks from my album "Ilinx Dream," I will focus on creating merchandise and physical CDs. I have signed with a label, so I will aim to collaborate with them, and most importantly, I will look for a way to perform live. I am also already working on my next EP.
