Holy Roller Baby - Speaking In Tongues

Holy Roller Baby, the rock 'n' roll project of multi-instrumentalist Jared Mullins, has released their new tune "Speaking in Tongues." The new song is the first single from the upcoming album Smile Like Heaven, which is set to be released on August 23, 2024. The song blends old rock feelings with current lyrics and production to produce a complex mix of music that transcends decades.

The artist commented: ‘Speaking in Tongues’ is probably my favorite song I’ve ever written. Something ethereal and magical about it. I hope someday that this applies to a love in my life, but I can’t honestly say it’s inspired by anyone in particular. When we added the Mellotron in the studio and heard it against the vocals I literally wanted to cry it was so moving.” .

The song brings me back to the 90s and it's got strong Radiohead influences, to my ears. The very first part of the song is very delicate and grows in intensity with inspired electric guitars (I love their sound!). The vocals are quite simple but never banal and I find "Speaking In Tongues" a great song, in terms of writing, performance, and production as well.
