Leila Addams - Bones (2025)

Bones is the title of the second EP by Leila Addams, an American artist who blends her talents as a singer, songwriter, producer, and choreographer. Her evocative vocals breathe life into hard rock, alternative metal, and gothic soundscapes, creating a dynamic fusion of melody and intensity.

Bones is comprised of 5 songs for 21 minutes of music. I love the rhythm section of the opener Into the Darkness, with a dark atmosphere but also very danceable and catchy (very cool chorus!). A song that blends lots of different atmospheres (including some "Nu-Metal" bits, toward the end) and is a great choice as an opener, probably my favourite track on the EP, if I have to choose one. The second track is Web of Lies, less experimental and more upbeat. The vocal lines are inspired, and the riffs are heavy, and it's another very cool and enjoyable track, overall.

The first single off the EP was Safe & Sound, "a haunting gothic metal track about being trapped in a toxic relationship", the artist wrote. I love the chorus on this one, but the verses are very interesting too, with a spot-on and classy arrangement and lots of detail that make you want to listen to the song again. Happy Ever After is more direct and happier in terms of mood, with a very radio-friendly chorus (reminding me of Evanescence), but still with lots of details and the usual great performance (I love the drumming!). The final and title track, "Bones" is more experimental and darker, with double bass drums and screaming vocals, toward the end of the song. Definitely a good and an intense finale.

Bones is a very interesting EP, with fantastic vocals and lots of tasty details to enjoy, both in terms of performance and arrangement, that make you want to press play again.
