Rebecca Haviland - "Late Nights and Early Mornings"

Rebecca Haviland is a force in the music world, blending Roots Rock, Soul, and Americana with her band, Whiskey Heart. With a career spanning over two decades, she’s worked alongside renowned musicians like Chris Anderson, Kenny Shaw, Todd Caldwell, and Nicky Barbato.

Her journey began in New York, inspired by her grandparents’ musical legacy. After studying music and interning at Acme Studios, she recorded her first EP, launching a career that led to performances at The Bitter End, a venue that once hosted legends like Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan.

Whiskey Heart’s 2013 debut album earned accolades in international competitions, and their 2018 release, Bright City Lights, was praised by Paste Magazine. They’ve recorded live albums at Sun Studio in Memphis, released a holiday album in 2022, and continue to evolve.

Their latest project, Late Nights and Early Mornings, consists of two EPs produced by Paul Loren. The first, Late Nights, dropped in November 2024, capturing the energy of New York’s after-hours. The second, Early Mornings, just released, offers a more grounded, introspective sound.

Beyond her own music, Haviland has been a touring/session musician and backing vocalist for over 15 years, performing with artists like Zayn Malik, Rachel Platten, and Nick Howard. She’s graced stages at Lilith Fair, Bonnaroo, and appeared on Ellen, Good Morning America, and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Her music is deeply influenced by icons like Aretha Franklin and Linda Ronstadt, as well as contemporary artists like Brandi Carlile and Jason Isbell. With her latest release, she continues to craft songs that resonate with audiences worldwide.

The one above is the latest single, “Late Nights and Early Mornings,” a jam inspired by Haviland’s love of The Black Crowes and ‘70s rock 'n' roll. Written in a single sitting and recorded in a single take, the song captures the feeling of finishing a late gig and basking in the moonlight. “To me, this song is where the worlds of late nights and early mornings truly intersect,” says Haviland. “It’s those suspended hours, when the world is asleep, and musicians are still chasing the magic.”

I love the 70s mood, with very inspired guitars, a solid and dynamic rhythm section, and classic rock vocals, amazingly performed by the American, catchy and intense vocal lines. The production is perfect for the genre, and the song is quality from every point of view, with fantastic solos as well.
