Beyond The Labyrinth - My Favorite Mistake

Belgium’s BTL (Beyond The Labyrinth) returns with renewed energy and a refined identity. Their latest single, My Favorite Mistake, marks the debut of vocalist Johan Lotigiers, who joined in 2024. His blues-infused, soulful style injects a more fluid, dynamic spirit into BTL’s classic rock sound, evoking the grit of early Whitesnake and Deep Purple, with a dash of Louis Prima’s playful charm.

The band about the new song: "‘It wasn’t born from a guitar riff or lyric sheet. It started in a garage, with Johan recording a spontaneous scat vocal idea into his phone — a jazzy, bluesy phrase drenched in concrete reverb. The looped vocal became the song’s rhythmic backbone."

Watch the music video above, showcasing the band's effortless chemistry and playful stage presence. It’s not about storytelling—just pure, unfiltered passion with no effects and filters. Just five seasoned musicians doing what they love, with a sixth honorary member, their beloved van, Mariette-De-Camionnette, making a memorable entrance.

The song brings me back to the 70s, in terms of arrangement (keyboards!) and vocal lines, while the production is more modern and robust. The song features very classy bass lines, solid drumming (cowbells, ladies and gentlemen!), very cool guitar parts (solo section!), and catchy vocals. If you are into classic rock, give My Favorite Mistake a go and follow Beyond The Labyrinth on Spotify as well.
