Song of the day: SELF TORQUE - No Rest

With the release of 'Impending Sense of Doom' in early 2023, Gabriel A. Pentin started Self Torque. Gabriel, who also fronts the post-hardcore act ÃœNHANG, incorporates a scorching punk spirit into Self Torque's direction and sound offering of indie-pop sensibility. The project is inspired by Tom Petty, Hot Snakes, and Against Me, and compared to Green Day, Placebo, and Ash.

This is the new single, called "No Rest". Gabriel said about the song: “It started from the frustration of not being able to write a song, the opening line is “When will the inspiration come, when will things start to be fun?” It’s kind of about not knowing where to start with life. It’s based on not being able to do anything in yourself, but also recognising how far you’ve come”. The track is taken from the new EP ‘No Rest for the Depressed’

I love the energetic pace and mood of the song, with creative and solid drumming and very catchy vocal lines (great chorus!). Very straightforward, the track is amazingly performed, very enjoyable from start to finish and it's got the perfect sound for the genre.
