Top 10 - Best albums of 2022

Here we are, to talk about my favourite albums of this year that, in my opinion, was very satisfying and with lots of big names and good music.

Ok, let's cut the chit-chat and let's go straight to my favourite 10 albums of 2022.

10) Bryan Adams - So happy it hurts (click for the album review)
It probably shouldn't be in this chart, as surely it's not one of the best albums by the Canadian singer but it's one of the albums I've listened to the most, during the year. Probably Bryan has a soothing effect on me and honestly, his voice is still amazing, even on the softer side.

9) Andy Timmons - Electric Truth (click for the album review)
Talking about musicians that always have an effect on me, here is Andy Timmons. Every time he releases an album, it stays on my personal playlist for a long time. And... how beautiful is "When words fail...", one of my favourite songs of this 2022.

8) Avantasia - A Paranormal Evening With the Moonflower Society (click for the album review)
I have to be honest in saying that overall, I think it's one of the weakest albums in the Avantasia discography (even for the surprise effect, now almost reduced to 0). But even a "meh" album created by Tobias Sammet is always great and quality music, hence the presence in my personal 2022 chart.

7) H.E.A.T - Force Majeure (click for the album review)
Not a fan of the band, but I loved the energy of this one ("Demon eyes" sounds like an 80s heavy metal song, my favourite on the album) and I listened to it a lot. The album has an amazing sound and an excellent vocal performance. If you like old-school Hard rock, I absolutely recommend it!

6) Skid Row - The gang's all here (click for the album review)
The first album with the new singer Erik Grönwall, former H.E.A.T. singer (see above). The band sounds fresh and energetic like the album was recorded in the 90s. The gang's all here is not a masterpiece but it's their best album from "Subhuman race", in my opinion, with lots of very cool songs. I think we can be happy. I am, at least.

5) Alter Bridge - Pawns & Kings (click for the album review)
Finally Alter Bridge are back on track after the... ehm... different "Walk the sky". Not at the level of their first albums but back to what their usual music was, and finally with only 10 songs (I always find their albums very long). The title track is a masterpiece, in my opinion. Give it a go if you don't know it. Welcome back Alter bridge!

4) Halestorm - Back From The Dead (click for the album review)
This is probably my favourite album by Halestorm in terms of production (I usually find them a little too pop or overproduced) and with killer singles. Also, Lzzy Hale is one of the best Hard rock singers of our era. Yes, I wrote that.

3) Megadeth - The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead! (click for the album review)
I find this album a little miracle. Dave Mustaine is almost without voice and he's been writing music for 40 years and... this album is so damn good. Sharp lyrics, huge riffs, and inspiration. Dave is still an excellent performer and songwriter, and the current line-up is probably my second favourite after the golden one (with Marty Friedman and Nick Menza).

2) Scorpions - Rock Believer (click for the album review)
Similar to what I wrote about Megadeth. I find albums like this a little miracle. The Scorpions are around way before I was born and still write fresh and vibrant music (at least, to my ears). Also, I love the sound of this album and I find this one very enjoyable in its entirety. A little miracle.

1) Ghost - Impera (click for the album review)
Not sure if it's the best album of 2022 but despite I'm definitely not a fan of the band, this is the album I listened to the most during the year. I find it amazingly inspired, various, enjoyable in its entirety and with killer songs. I think it's enough and I also strongly recommend listening to it, if for some reason you ignored this release.

Giovanni Gagliano

Passionate about music I wrote my first article for "Given To Rock" in 2012, reaching now 30K global followers. I am also a musician, gigging around London.
